:: LCW briefs May 2004 – Sep 2005 ::

  • The LCW published a mission statement –portfolio- identifying the objectives, plans and achievements of the LCW in the past years, and emphasizing the goals, methods of work and accomplishments of the actual executive board.
  • The LCW drafted a proposal encompassing the women quota in the next parliamentary election law, focusing on the implementation modes of such a measure. The LCW proposal is based upon in-depth study and extensive meetings with the concerned NGOs and social groups. The LCW has also launched a massive out-reached awareness campaign to explain, promote and convey the proposal to those parties that can have an impact on the public policy decision –making, in order to include women quota in the parliamentary law that is now under construction.
  • The LCW issued a newsletter characterized by insightful articles as well as an elegant design.
  • The LCW organized in cooperation with Fridrich Ebert a conference around the Management of Internal constituents of Non Governmental Organizations in Lebanon, and distributed to the participants a booklet entitled “ The Internal Management of NGOs in Lebanon”, discussing the imperatives of good management in the NGO sector.
  • The LCW issued a database concerning all the Organizations members of its general board, available to all aiming at providing information crucial to the improvement of “Good governance “practices in the non-governmental sector in Lebanon.
  • The LCW and in cooperation with NDI, organized at the Marriott Hotel during three days a series of roundtables aiming at teaching women how to manage their electoral campaign , because the LCW functions under the motto that Lebanon will overcome thanks to Lebanese Women.
  • The LCW and in cooperation with UNIFEM, trained 60 women members of the NGOs that adhere to the LCW into the art of management. The training sessions took place in Beirut, at the Commodore Hotel on the 25th of April. The Training sessions were later on extended to include all Lebanese districts.
  • The LCW inaugurated it’s newly equipped and rehabilitated offices, with the funding and support of Prince Walid Bin –Talal Foundation and in the presence of her Excellency Mrs Leila Solh Hamadeh.
  • The LCW had published many slogans, which are: The Nation First- We want the Truth- The National Unity is the Safety Valves-Democracy in support of Nation-Building and Freedom.
  • LCW had held many press conferences about different issues, the last of which was at 21 of September 2005 declaring the final report of its achieved data base project.
  • A fancy dinner was organized at Phoenicia Hotel the 8 of January 2004 honoring Mrs Hamade and Mrs Hamze, the first two women ministers at the Lebanese government.
  • To encourage the revival of social and economical life at Beirut Downtown after the assassination of Prime Minister Mr Rafic Hariri, LCW had organized a lunch under the patronage and the presence of the deputy Mrs Hariri.
  • LCW is always ready and available to highlight represent and express the vision of Lebanese Women concerning social, political, economical and environmental issues that occupy our beloved country Lebanon. To fulfill those tasks, LCW had visited many high rank decision makers and attended and participated either by his president Mrs Turkiyeh or by executive members in many workshops, roundtables, meetings and conferences inside and outside Lebanon, in Tunisia, Jordan, Paris, Turkey, Tehran, and Sudan.
